Josh Wright to perform

Josh Wright will perform Friday, May 11 at 7:30 p.m. in the Barrus Concert Hall.
Wright has performed in many national as well as international competitions, from New York to Salt Lake City, Utah, to Warsaw, Poland.
Wright was the first-prize winner at the 2010 American Protege International Competition of Romantic Music.
He is also the second-prize winner of the 2011 Music Teachers National Association National Competition.
In April 2011, at 23 years old Wright’s self-titled album topped the Billboard Classical Traditional chart three weeks after it debuted.
In his album, Wright combines classical songs with hymns.
Wright, a Utah native, also graduated from University of Utah with a master’s degree that same year.
“I tried to practice for about two and a half hours a day from the time I was 10 to 18, and then I switched to doing four hours a day after that,” Wright said in an interview with LDS Living.
Wright has been accepted to the University of Michigan to pursue a Doctor of Musical Arts Degree according to Wright’s website.
Wright has participated in many master classes.
“I think my favorite part of being a pianist is you always get to be doing something fun and creative and sharing what you love to do with other people,” Wright also said in the interview with LDS Living.
Tickets are $10 for general public and $5 for BYU-I students.
No children under 6 are allowed.
