First Presidency Announces 2 New Temples

SALT LAKE CITY–  Thomas S. Monson, President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced plans to build 2 temples to be located  in Tucson, Arizona and Arequipa, Peru.

The Tucson, Arizona temple will be the sixth temple built in Arizona. Other temple locations in Arizona include, Mesa, Snowflake and Gila Valley, while the Phoenix and Gilbert ones are still under construction. There are over 400,000 members of the church in Arizona

The Arequipa, Peru temple will be the third temple in Peru following Lima, and Trujillo which is still under construction. Peru is home to over half million church members. Members on the Arequipa area, Peru’s second most populous city have to travel close to 500 miles to get to the Lima temple.

Locations for the temples will be announced at a future date.
