(Update) Forty more people were found dead bringing the total death count to 91.
A mile-wide tornado ripped through Moore, Okla. May 20, killing an estimated 51 people, 20 of which were children. The death toll is expected to rise.
According to the New York Times, the tornado touched down at 2:56 p.m., 16 minutes after the first warning went out, and traveled for 20 miles. It was on the ground for 40 minutes. It struck the town of Newcastle and traveled about 10 miles to Moore, a populous suburb of Oklahoma City.
The storm rooted homes and stores and five elementary schools full of children.
According to ABC News, the American Red Cross has opened shelters throughout the city of Moore where those affected by the tornado can come for food, shelter and to search for loved ones.
President Obama has declared the tornado that hit Oklahoma as a major disaster.
