Trial, Error, and Explosions!
For a few semesters now the mechanical engineering students on the rocket team have been spending countless hours designing and building their rocket. This last week they performed another test as they continue to prepare for the coming competition.
“We’ve had about 20-15 students working on it since fall 2012, not all the same students, but we’ve put over 1000 man hours into the rocket. We have to build a rocket that goes 10,000 feet. It has to have 10 pound pay load in it, and we have to be able to recover it in one piece essentially,” says Aaron Albrecht.
Thing haven’t always gone as planned. They have done multiple tests, and each one has had a different result.
“Our first small motor test it was about a third of the size of the one we did today. It didn’t ignite at first
