Basic American Foods blaze
Around 5:48 on Monday April 29, flames erupted by Basic American Foods in Rexburg. Firefighters and police officials were at the scene fighting the blaze. The 60 mph wind gust made it difficult for fire crews to contain the fire.
Fire Chief, David Davis says that the fire was nobody’s fault. According to Davis, Basic American Foods keeps piles of woodchips to fuel their boiler, and it was that 15 foot high pile of bark that combusted.
The fire spread from the sawdust to the roof of Basic American Foods. Sparks also briefly threatened a Tesoro gas station and trailer park. 21 people in eight trailers were evacuated until the fire was deemed under control.
Fire crews returned to the scene the next morning to find that there were some remnants of fire being fueled by the wind, but they have been able to completely put it out.
