A post on Facebook allegedly by the Provo YSA 9th Ward instructing its members to rate the Book of Mormon on Amazon.com has been drawing some attention online.
The post contains an invitation by the stake presidency and bishopric to write a review on Amazon.com giving the Book of Mormon a positive rating of five stars, according to Fox 13 Salt Lake City’s Web page.
“It is a great opportunity to share your testimony to the world and do online missionary work,” according to the Facebook post. “I personally found that my love and testimony for the Book of Mormon has increase tremendously as I wrote down my testimony as a review, and I know it will be the case for you as well.”
Not all members who were asked to upload posts were pleased, according to posts on Amazon.com.
“Wow, I can’t believe a stake president and bishop in Provo 9th ward have instructed their members, and gave a link, to ‘flood the earth with 5 star Amazon reviews.’ That is nauseating,” according to a review on Amazon.com on Feb 29.
Not all the reviews of the Book of Mormon are negative. Sixty percent of the reviews are five starts while 35 percent are one star, according to Amazon.com.
