The Rexburg Police log reported the event of a sexual assault June 13:
“Police were dispatched to complete a welfare check on a female who expressed suicidal thoughts via text to reporting party. Female also informed reporting party she was pregnant. Reporting party believed the pregnancy was related to an alleged sexual assault that may have occurred recently. Reporting party did not know the current location of the female and was concerned for her safety. Police were able to locate the female and establish she was safe. Investigation of the alleged sexual assault is ongoing.”
The Rexburg Police Department declined to comment further on the university’s email stating the case is under investigation.
Kipp Harris, Dean of Students, said all the university can report is what was sent in the campus-wide email.
He said the perpetrators have not been identified, and in that case, the university is under obligation to notify students of the situation.
“We have to give a timely warning to the students,” Harris said.
