BYU-Hawaii announces new president

Dr. John S. Tanner was announced May 13¬†as BYU-Hawaii’s new president starting July 27, 2015.

Elder Russell M. Nelson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints made the announcement at BYU-Hawaii’s Tuesday ¬†devotional.

John S. Tanner has been the first counselor in the General Sunday School Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints since April 2014. His wife, Susan W. Tanner, was the Young Women general president from 2002 to 2008.

After the announcement, Tanner told the devotional audience that he felt humbled, but that he also felt confident, noting that he knows the Lord directs the work of Brigham Young University-Hawaii.
