It’s no secret that the 2016 election is made up of a diverse group of presidential candidates, especially when we consider how far along we are in the primary electoral process.

Out of everyone running, one thing is clear: Donald Trump is the wrong choice.

The Scroll Editorial Board consists of a myriad of political ideologies, ranging from idealists in support of Bernie Sanders to constitutional conservatives supporting Ted Cruz.

While we disagree on many political and social issues, one belief we agree on is that Donald Trump is the worst choice.

Trump has demonstrated a complete lack of respect for the Constitution.

“There are parallels between Trump’s defense of eminent domain abuse and Roosevelt’s contempt for property rights, and Trump’s strongman tendencies have antecedents in TR’s impatience with the machinery of constitutional government,” according the National Review.

A presidential candidate, ethically, should have the best interest of our nation in mind.

Instead, he has referred to Mexican immigrants as rapists and drug dealers. He has made a career of objectifying women on television.

He has expressed desires to ban an entire religion from immigrating to this country.

He has endorsed his supporters to physically harm those in protest at his rallies.

He wants to further limit the press by making it legal to sue journalists who publish negative articles

Trump supporters have said they will vote for him because he “says what’s on his mind.” Yes, that may be true, but pay attention to what he is actually saying.

“I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody, and I wouldn’t lose voters,” Trump said at a campaign rally.

Brandon Stanton, founder of Humans of New York, wrote an open letter to Donald Trump expressing exactly what we as the editorial staff feel about this candidate.

“I’ve watched you retweet racist images,” Stanton said. “I’ve watched you retweet racist lies. I’ve watched you take 48 hours to disavow white supremacy. I’ve watched you joyfully encourage violence, and promise to ‘pay the legal fees’ of those who commit violence on your behalf.

I’ve watched you advocate the use of torture and the murder of terrorists’ families. I’ve watched you gleefully tell stories of executing Muslims with bullets dipped in pig blood.

I’ve watched you compare refugees to ‘snakes,’ and claim that ‘Islam hates us.”

Trump has promoted a culture of hate and bigotry that we never expected to see in our lifetime.

“I’ve also interviewed hundreds of Syrian and Iraqi refugees across seven different countries,” Stanton said. “And I can confirm — the hateful one is you.”

The dissenting opinion in favor of Trump states America needs a strong leader who promotes our values and cares about Americans.

Trump’s presidential campaign has promoted the opposite.

It has promoted fear, hate and divide.

Whatever political party you associate with, we claim that a Trump presidency will disrespect everything America stands for.
