Madison Fire Department responded to reports of a fire in the bathrooms at Nature Park around 3:20 p.m.

“We just got toned out to a fire in the bathroom of Nature Park,” said Captain Joseph Haeberle of the Madison Fire Department. “On the way there we were told it was smoking.”

Haeberle said by the time the fire department arrived at Nature Park, the fire had already been extinguished.

Blair Knapp, a Rexburg resident, said that when he saw smoke coming from the bathroom he went inside and saw a trashcan on fire. He said that he then began extinguishing the fire using cups of water and a water bottle.

The fire melted a park trashcan and warped the ceiling and light fixture of the bathrooms. Black scorch marks can be seen on the walls inside and outside of the bathrooms.
