Cody Kelsey received a phone call June 26 at 7:30 a.m. informing him that an explosion had occurred at his house just east of St. Anthony.
His son, 45-year-old Craig Kelsey, his wife, Theresa Kelsey, 45, and their 14-year-old daughter Shandilynn, were in the home at the time of the explosion.
“The walls all blew out and the roof came down on them,” Cody Kelsey said.
Cody Kelsey said Theresa and Shandilynn Kelsey walked away from the incident, but Craig Kelsey had to be dug out from under the rubble.
All three were taken by ambulance to Madison Memorial Hospital. Craig Kelsey is currently in the ICU, while Theresa and Shandilynn are recovering from injuries sustained during the explosion.
“A lot of memories are in that house. You don’t realize that until it’s all gone,” Cody Kelsey said.
Cody Kelsey and his family bought this St. Anthony home two years ago. Craig Kelsey and his family were living with Cody Kelsey. He said they all wanted to live closer together and be more self-sufficient.
“Everything happens for a reason. We’ll have to make a new plan, but at least nobody was killed,” Cody Kelsey said.
The explosion occurred about 6:30 a.m. on June 26. The cause of the explosion is still under investigation.
