Man arrested in Idaho Falls for felony battery on officer

IDAHO FALLS– Idaho Falls Police arrested Edgar Chavarria, 20, for felony battery on an officer, providing false information, resisting arrest and two warrants early Wednesday morning, Sept. 23, 2015.

Chavarria struck two officers in the head when they responded to a report of a male passed out on the stairwell of Fairfield Inn, 1493 W. Broadway in Idaho Falls, around 6:30 a.m.

Officers regained control over Chavarria after they tased him.

When police approached the man passed out, they recognized him as Chavarria, who had a Bonneville County Felony Probation Warrant and an Idaho Falls Police Vandalism Warrant which prompted the arrest.

The 20-year-old initially provided a false name to police when he first awoke. Police confirmed it was Chavarria.

Chavarria is being charged without bail and was arraigned Wednesday Sept. 23, at 1:30 p.m.

Joelyn Hansen, spokeswoman for the Idaho Falls Police Department said the two assaulted officers suffered minor injuries and are still on duty.
