Music does not always start off as a passion for most people. Bethany Winder, a freshman studying English education and one of the three Last Voice Standing finalists said it did not work that way for her.
“I started taking piano lessons when I was about 7 years old,” Winder said. “But I hated it. I didn’t realize I love music, or even that I was good at it, until I stopped taking lessons when I was 11. Since then, I’ve found an amazing connection to musical expression, and it has stuck with me.”
She said music has become a part of the list of things she likes to do.
“Some of my hobbies are singing and songwriting, jamming on the piano, screenwriting and being in the outdoors,” Winder said.
When it comes to favorite genres, she said she can swing any way.
“I don’t have a favorite genre to listen to because I love most of them,” Winder said. “But my favorite to sing is pop. Birdy is probably the artist I most admire. My favorite song is ‘Better Be Good to Me‘ by Tina Turner.”
She said she got involved with Last Voice Standing by just taking a chance.
“I first got involved with LVS when I decided to audition for it earlier in the semester,” Winder said. “I wasn’t planning on auditioning, but then thought I might as well try it out, and I’m glad I made that choice.”
For the finale, she said she is looking forward to the upgrade in both the equipment and her performance.
“I’m most looking forward to singing with the Kirkham’s awesome sound system, which is, like, seven times better than the one in the MC.”
