Quorum of the Seventy recognizes new senior president

SALT LAKE CITY – The Church announced on Wednesday, Oct. 7 that the presidency of the quorum of the Seventy has a new president, Elder L. Whitney Clayton.

Elder Clayton serves as a member of the Public Affair Committee of the church, and assists Elder David A. Bednar, a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, in supervising two of the Areas in Africa.

“I testify that Jesus Christ is the source of light and hope for all of us,” said Elder Clayton in April, 2015 in his talk ‘Choose to Believe.’ “I pray that we may all choose to believe in Him. “

Elder Gerrit W. Gong was called as a new member in the presidency of the Seventy. He has served as member of the first quorum of the Seventy, since 2010.

Elder Gong is responsible for the Asia area and he will work there for a short time while his responsibilities haven’t been transferred yet.

“The Savior’s freely given atoning love helps us become more forgiving and less judgmental of others and of ourselves,” said Elder Gong in his article in the Ensign Magazine in July, 2014. “This love heals our relationships and gives us opportunities to love, understand, and serve as our Savior would.”

Elder Clayton and Elder Gong will keep assisting the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles in their duties.
