A Rexburg Police Department patrol car was hit and flipped shortly before 9 a.m. Saturday morning at the intersection of University Boulevard and Yellowstone Highway.

“There was a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of University and South Yellowstone,” said Captain Randy Lewis at the Rexburg Police Department. “One of them was a patrol vehicle that was eastbound on University, lights on responding an alarm. The other vehicle was northbound on and came through a green light and T-boned the patrol vehicle.”

Patrons in the McDonald’s on the corner of the intersection said they did not see the event take place, but they did see the aftermath.

“We just looked up and saw the car flipped, and a bunch of people saw it at around the same time and they all ran out,” said Ashton Young, a student at BYU-Idaho studying accounting.

Young said the crash occurred around 8:45 a.m.

“I think the officer got out OK,” Young said.

Lewis said there were no serious injuries.

“Our patrol officer got some scrapes on his head, and that’s about it” Lewis said.
