Students perform in Magic Moments
Singing, musical instruments, choreography, costumes and props once again added to this year’s production of Magic Moments on Feb. 9.
Twelve students performed a variety of musical numbers from Disney-produced films such as “Marry Poppins”, “Pocahontas” and “Tangled.”
Performers auditioned earlier this semester for the opportunity to be able to perform in Magic Moments and maybe receive the chance to be in the Best of Show.
“I tried out to sing ‘Kiss the Girl’ but that was already chosen, so I decided to sing ‘Color of the Wind,’” said Sierra Poppleton, a senior studying psychology.
One of the first performances was by Jacob Espinal, a senior studying music. He performed “Go the Distance” in Spanish from the movie “Hercules.”
Molly Gubler, a freshman studying music education, chose to sing a musical number from “Mulan” called “Reflection” and was accompanied by Malachi Tolman, a junior studying physics.
Gubler and Tolman said they were nervous at first but as soon as they started to perform, it became natural for them.
Gubler said she liked “I See the Light” from “Tangled” because of how touching it was to watch.
“[I liked] ‘If I Can’t Love Her’ from ‘Beauty and the Beast,’ it’s just so beautiful,” said Sierra Poppleton, a senior studying psychology.
Other performances included musical numbers from “Oliver and Company,” “Pirates of the Caribbean” and “The Little Mermaid.”
Hilary Adamson, a senior studying music, said her favorite songs were “Kiss the Girl,” “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious,” and “I See the Light.”
“The reason why ‘Kiss the Girl’ was [one of my favorites] was because all the boys had interesting costumes, and they all had great voices,” Adamson said. “And to top it off they were all cute. It was amazing to watch that and have it be the closing number.”
At the end of the show, audience members had the opportunity to vote for their two favorite performances via text message.
