The Spread: Composition

One of the first things every photographer needs to learn is how to compose an image. There are basic rules and guides that will help any beginner. First, try placing the subject one third of the way through your image. This is called the rule of thirds. Another trick is to include several of the same things in your image to make it feel less out of place. Doing the opposite can also be interesting and could create contrast. Some images are also best when they are symmetrical and perfectly balanced.
