UPDATE: Grief and Love: The Death of a Beloved Professor

UPDATE: A correction is necessary for a quote used in an article about the passing of BYU-Idaho professor Stephen Stokes.

Nathan Meeker, the chair of the sociology department, was misquoted, causing some confusion about the location of his funeral services.

The original article said, “They’re going to have the funeral in the I-Center to fit everyone that knows and loves him.”

Meeker actually said, “They’re going to have to have the funeral in the I-Center to fit everyone that knows and loves him.”

Meeker meant to emphasize that Stokes influenced many people, not to announce the location of Stokes’ funeral.

Funeral services for Stokes will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 9, at the Rexburg South Stake Center, according to Flamm Funeral Home’s official webpage.

Friends are invited to the viewing from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Friday, July 8, and 9:30-10:45 a.m. Saturday, July 9. The viewing will also be held at the Rexburg South Stake Center.

“He really cared for his students one-on-one, he really cared for his co-workers one-on-one, and he cared for each member of his family and showed that unconditional love,” Meeker said. “I think what you’re going to see at the funeral is a wide range of people there because he didn’t let someone’s personal circumstances stop him from reaching out to them.”
