We got spirit, yes we do: Spirit of Ricks

Coed Cheer tryouts were held on Sept. 29 and Oct. 1.

Maci Jordan, a freshman studying business management, said she is excited to coach this year.

“This is my first year here,” she said.

Maci Jordan said she has a lot of experience on cheer teams.

“I’ve been cheering my whole life basically,” she said.

She said she was hoping for 30-40 people to attend tryouts.

“I’m really excited to be coaching here because I feel like it could get bigger,” Maci Jordan said.

She said there are definitely spots for more people.

“We could definitely fit in 5-10 guys in our rotation,” Maci Jordan said.

She said they need men to try out.

“I don’t know who wouldn’t want to cheer,” she said. “I mean, you get to throw girls up in the air all day basically. I think it’s awesome.”

She said men who cheer lead have a physically demanding job.

“I think in some regards, it can be tougher than lifting weights for the guys,” she said.

Lexi Jordan, a senior studying elementary education and Maci’s sister, said the team will perform a variety of cheers.

“If we are cheering at games, we’re going to probably do 20-30 sideline cheers for football games while they are playing,” Lexi Jordan said.

Lexi Jordan said the team will do a variety of routines this semester.

“There are a lot of upcoming events, like the football and basketball games this semester,” she said. “And then we will do one or two routines that we will do on the football field during halftime, and then we will have a showcase at the end of the season.”

Lexi Jordan said she is looking forward to the season because she thinks it will be a really great semester.

“I’m feeling good about it,” she said.
