The snow is starting to melt, and the sun feels a little warmer in Rexburg this week.
As the semester hits the midway point, the urge to discard blankets and frolick in the sun is fast approaching. So here are five things to do when the snow melts.
1. Go to the park
There are several parks in Rexburg. Here are two close to campus.
Smith Park is located at Third East Main Street.
“It has a gazebo, picnic tables, baseball fields, tennis courts, kiddie park, playground equipment, antique steam engine and barbeque areas,” according to the Rexburg Chamber of Commerce website.
Porter Park is located at Second West to Third West and First South to Second South.
This park offers “Splash Park, Carousel, kids playground, tennis courts, basketball court, walking path and two shelters,” according to the Rexburg City website.
2.Try out the Ropes course.
This activity is for those who like a little adrenaline and teamwork.
This course is all about understanding each other.
This would be great for a home evening activity, ward party or family get-together.
“You must have a group of eight or more,” according to the BYU-Idaho website. “The minimum session length is two hours. Participants must be five years or older.”
3.Fly a kite.
In the words of George Banks in Mary Poppins, “Let’s go fly a kite.”
Often times in Rexburg, you trade snow for wind as spring shows up. There are many wide open spaces in Rexburg, so kite flying will become easy as the wind picks up and the snow melts away.
4. Sand dunes
Fifty miles northwest of Idaho Falls are the St. Anthony Sand Dunes. This destination can be used for camping, off roading and bonfire parties. It even has a lake.
“This 10,600 acre playground of clear, shifting, white quartz sand is known for its unique beauty and exceptional recreation opportunities,” according to the St. Anthony Sand Dune guide website.
The sand dunes were active volcanic vents, according to the St. Anthony Sand Dune guide website.
If you don’t have a pool at your apartment complex, no worries because you can take a dip at Rexburg Rapids, conveniently located at 50 West Second North.
This water park includes water slides, volley ball area, water playground and lap pool.
