During the Saturday morning session of General Conference for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Elder L. Tom Perry of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles spoke about the importance of the sanctity of marriage.

“Families can be together forever,” Perry said.

Perry asked how members of the Church can distinguish themselves from the rest of the world in regards to marriage.

“Here is the answer: Only we have the eternal perspective of the restored gospel,” he said.

Perry said we believe that we are members of our Heavenly Father’s family, and we should treat our families as such.

He warned members to be cautious of the media they are exposed to.

“Immorality and amorality, ranging from graphic violence to recreational sex is portrayed as the norm and can cause those who have mainstream values to feel like we are out of date or from a bygone era,” Perry said.

He said that despite the influences from the media, majorities worldwide will want to have children and to create strong families.

“As a Church, we want to assist in all that we can to create and support strong marriages and families,” Perry said.
