Fall and winter are great times to mix up the kinds of dates you go on. The weather is more crisp and chilly, so you can’t do the same things you would do in the summer. Here are some fun ideas when the weather goes sour.
This is a classic choice, but when it is cold outside, there is nothing better than warming up inside and watching a good movie. You can also invite friends and make it a group date. Sometimes, the best commentary comes with a big group of people.
Show off your cooking skills by planning a fun menu and cooking together. This is also a great group date as well. One couple can make a side, one couple can make an entrée and one can make a dessert. You can even do your own version of Thanksgiving dinner or have a themed dinner party and invite your friends.
Indoor Sports Date
Check out the John W. Hart Building or the BYU-Idaho Center for a game of volleyball, basketball or even a class like Zumba. You can even hit the gym or go swimming together, and get a work out in while spending time together. This is a great idea for active couples.
Scavenger Hunt Date
Discover new parts of Rexburg together with a fun scavenger hunt. Make a list of places to go and then race to get all the tasks done. This could include a game of sardines, glow-in-the-dark hide and seek or a geocaching trip. This would work out even better in a group, so try doing a double or triple date!
This is perfect for a group date, so gather some friends and play card or board games! You can always play Heads Up, chess, Apples to Apples, Catch Phrase and spoons. Or you could play a friendly game of black jack or poker, and pool random objects from your apartments or candy to bet on.
Let your inner artist come out to play as you and your significant other snow paint. You can make the solution by adding water and food coloring (or Kool-Aid) together, and that’s it. If you want to do fine details in the snow, put the solution in a spray bottle and adjust the setting to “stream.”
If you enjoy the snow and copious amounts of cold weather, then why not try sledding? Rexburg and the surrounding areas are full of hills, and you can find a sled just about anywhere (Walmart, Broulim’s, your neighborhood trashcan lid, etc.). Take your date out for a fun sledding trip, burn some calories, and gain them all back when you go out for hot chocolate afterwards.
Mix Tape Trade
This is a fabulous way to get to know your crush. Simply burn a CD or create a playlist (and have your date do the same) and see what they like. It provides great insight into their lives without asking complicated questions.
Watch Terrible Movies
Not inappropriate or rated “R” movies, but movies that have been terribly done. Why is it so fun to watch poorly directed and casted movies? We may never know. Fortunately, you can find Sharknado, Twilight and the Spy Kids saga all on Netflix.
Try a YouTube Tutorial
Have you ever made chainmail, added actions to a Photoshop photo, or skinned a rattlesnake? No? Well with your date, now you can! Don’t limit yourselves to only these options, though, as there are many great tutorial available on YouTube.
Don’t let the cold weather dampen your idea of the perfect date. Try out these date ideas and live, my friend.
