The Common Adventure Trip ride board gives students the opportunity to plan and participate in weekend adventure trips with fellow students.
The Common Adventure Trip ride board is part of the university’s online community bulletin board. Users can create posts asking for drivers or passengers for student-planned adventure trips. It is located at www.web.byui.edu/bulletinboard.
According to the Common Adventure Trip web page, its purpose is “to provide a place for like-minded people to get together and share outdoor adventures.”
“Everybody loves an adventure,” said Darby Colquett, a sophomore studying communication. “It would be cool to meet new people who share interests, and do crazy things together.”
Some students are looking for things to do but are limited because of their personal situations.
“It would give me a chance to meet new people and now I can do fun things I normally wouldn’t be able to do because I don’t have a car,” said Kyle Hoggan, a junior studying health science.
Examples of different adventure trips that have taken place include a rock climbing trip at Heise Rock and a weekend long white-water rafting trip.
“It’s a great opportunity to get out of the house,” said Lynnea Aillery, a freshman studying music. “Maybe you can start a new hobby, or maybe I will even find a date,”
Multiple trips have already taken place, and there will be more of these adventures throughout the semester.
“Students are excited about this because they can go do things that they normally wouldn’t be able to do,” said Randy Hathaway, a freshman studying art. “You can split gas prices, and it works out for everyone.”
The Common Adventure Ride Board provides an alternative to the campus-sponsored Outdoor Recreational Center.
“Sometimes the Outdoor Recreational Center is too busy, or the activities that are planned aren’t what you are interested in,” said Benjamin Gill, a senior studying exercise physiology. “This trip board is a great idea if people actually use it.”
Students interested in participating in the Common Adventure program can create a trip by using the ‘My Ads’ tab on the board and creating a new “Common Adventure” post.
