Rexburg, ID – With increasing crowds on campus, speeding bikes on the sidewalks is a safety concern at the school.
Around campus, signs are placed bearing the words “bike speed is walking speed”. Students disregarding the rule may receive a $10 fine.
Eric J. Harmston, a campus safety officer explained the reasoning for the rule, “During Mothers’ Week and when we had visitors on campus we had a lot of complaints about bikes pushing them off the road, hitting them as they’re going past with their handle bars or with their elbows. We’ve had a cole of people knocked off the sidewalk.”
Bikers are encouraged to leave enough time to get to class without running over pedestrians.
