June 21, 2026, marks BYU-Idaho's 26 years since the name change announcement.

On June 21 2000, Ricks College announced the change from a two-year university to a four-year university as well as a new name: Brigham Young University-Idaho.

In the announcement of Ricks becoming BYU-Idaho, President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Gordon B. Hinckley stated, "The memory of Thomas E. Ricks will continue to be appropriately honored and perpetuated ... Undoubtedly, some changes to the campus will be necessary. However, they will be modest in nature and scope."

The rest of the address can be found under Devotionals and Speeches on BYU-Idaho's website.

Throughout the history of the school, countless improvements have been made.

In honor of 25 years, here are some now-and-then pictures from old Ricks to current BYUI.
