BYU-Idaho’s Department of Campus Recreation and Wellness Center issued the “Stay FIT Don’t QUIT” challenge for the month of February. Students interested in participating in the challenge should go to the front desk of Campus Recreation, located inside room 129 of the Hyrum Manwaring Student Center, and get a punch card.

Throughout the month, participants can ask a fitness class instructor or Wellness Center student to initial their punch card any time they participate in one of the accepted programs. Those programs include a wellness coach consultation, any of the evening group fitness classes and wellness center workshops.

After February is over, entrants return their cards to the Campus Recreation front desk. The participant with the most initials will receive a free Ninja blender. If there is a tie for first place, those individuals will be entered into a drawing.

Any participants with at least 16 signed initials will be entered into a raffle for wireless headphones.

“We hope this challenge will help participants fulfill their wellness resolutions throughout the month of February,” said Lisa Robison, the activities advisor for the Department of Campus Recreation. “We also hope it will help prepare them for next month’s challenge as well.”

Fitness challenges in the past have mostly consisted of only the fitness aspect, but Campus Recreation and the Wellness Center are working together on this challenge to help more students to be able to participate and work on their overall wellness.

Some of the fitness classes offered include yoga, cycling, high fitness, Zumba, aqua Zumba, kickboxing, aerobics, HIIT and cross-training. Some of the programs offered through the Wellness Center include meal preparation and planning, stress management, budgeting, mental and emotional health, academic goals, spiritual wellness and social skills.

Julienne Bringhurst, a junior majoring in marriage and family studies, plans on taking part in the “Stay FIT Don’t QUIT” challenge and attending many of the different classes being offered.

“I have a friend who teaches the aqua Zumba classes so I’m hoping to attend her classes when I can,” Bringhurst said. “I also really enjoy the high fitness class and would love to do a step class or a kickboxing class. I’m mostly just curious if they’ll work me harder than the classes that I’ve taken at a very popular workout studio in Utah that has a lot of the classes that BYU-I has to offer but are for free here.”
