On Tuesday morning, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced a special broadcast to reorganize the First Presidency of the Church.
The First Presidency was dissolved when President Russell M. Nelson passed away on Sept. 27. A week after his funeral, the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles met to set apart a new president and organize a new First Presidency.
Elder Gary E. Stevenson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles conducted the broadcast, which started at 1 p.m. MST, and announced that President Dallin H. Oaks was set apart that morning as the 18th prophet and president of the Church.
President Oaks then spoke and introduced Elder Henry B. Eyring as first counselor and Elder D. Todd Christofferson as second counselor of the new First Presidency.
He also announced that Elder Jeffrey R. Holland, as the seniormost apostle, will serve as President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.
"I accept with humility the responsibility that God has placed upon me," said President Oaks.
The last time the First Presidency was reorganized was on Jan. 16, 2018 when President Nelson announced Oaks and Eyring as counselors in the First Presidency.
