The hectic and time-consuming workload of college can take so much out of students. By the time the weekend rolls around, students may want to find ways to get the past week off of their minds and prepare for the following week. Activities and events on campus are one of the ways that students can take their minds away from stress.
Stadium Singing is one of the activities students can attend. It happens every Sunday beginning at 8:45 p.m. and is located under the bleachers of the BYU-Idaho stadium, under the bleachers near where you buy tickets.
Students who enjoy singing should come to this activity. Here, they gather in a large group and sing church hymns.
Amanda Peck, a junior studying welding engineering technology, is among the students here on campus who attend the event every Sunday.
“What I really enjoy the most about the Spanish Singing Under the Stadium is the fact that I love music, and I love just being able to sing with people,” Peck said. “I know people get excited about singing in Spanish because a lot of people have served Spanish missions and miss that language and culture.”
Whenever you are out walking on a Sunday evening, you may hear the vocals of this group throughout campus, giving those who are out and about an opportunity to feel the Spirit.
“I started going after my friend told me about it,” said Collin Teedum, a junior studying art. “I’ve been doing it for about a month and a half now. When I go I feel like it’s a great way to kick off my week. It really makes a difference for me and the whole week.”
Despite the drafty and cold air beneath the bleachers, the students enjoy coming here to sing hymns.
“When I started going, it was cold,” Teedum said. “But I didn’t really feel like it could keep me from going. It’s warming up now, but I am glad I came even though it was cold.”
There are two different parts to this activity.
First, there is the Spanish singing, where those who wish to sing the hymns in Spanish are able to. Those who are learning, fluent or speak the language can attend this session. The Spanish singing lasts until 9:30 p.m. It is then followed by the English singing for the next hour.
Even though mostly students participate, anyone is welcome to attend this activity. Come and kickstart your week with Stadium Singing.
