Star Valley, Wyoming now has a temple to call its own. Sunday Oct. 30, Elder David A. Bednar of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, dedicated the first temple in the state of Wyoming.
“It’s beautiful, it’s simple, it’s serene,” Elder Bednar said. “The Latter-day Saints who come here to receive their covenants and ordinances will be greatly blessed.”
Elder Bednar dedicated the temple in three separate sessions. Area Church members were able to watch the dedication broadcast in their church buildings.
After the first dedication, Elder Bednar presided over the cornerstone ceremony.
“Jesus the Christ is the cornerstone of his Church restored on the earth in these latter-days,” Elder Bednar said during the ceremony.
Sister Susan Bednar, who grew up in Star Valley, was in attendance with Elder Bednar.
“I’ve had the opportunity to keep an eye on what’s been going on in preparation for this dedication, and the work that has been done in homes where families have taught their children about the temple—its purpose, its wonderful hope that it brings and the peace that comes and also the opportunity to make and keep sacred covenants,” Sister Bednar said. “I know that those covenants and those promises made here, if they’re kept, will bless the people here in this valley.”
The night before the dedication, more than 1,200 Latter-day Saint youth throughout the temple district participated in a cultural celebration.
“The Lord has blessed this area with a temple,” Elder Bednar said. “That’s a remarkable blessing.”
