Elder Aaron T. Hall, called as a General Authority Seventy in April 2025, spoke at devotional at BYU-Idaho Tuesday.
Quoting President Dallin H. Oaks, Elder Hall stated that "The gospel of Jesus Christ challenges us to become something."
In his address, Elder Hall shared his experience participating in the Ironman race, a triathlon that involves running, biking and swimming. He specified that the goal of the triathlon wasn't to place first, but rather to complete it and become an Ironman.
Reflecting the challenges of swimming through the rough waves of life, Elder Hall invited students to ponder how the Savior has helped them to "just keep swimming."
Armaya Bainbridge, a BYUI student studying English elementary education, shared her insights on how the Savior helped her to 'just keep swimming'.
"There [are] little simple efforts that I do throughout my day ... [like just] going to class sometimes. ... I think not only [does] the Lord appreciate our small efforts, but I think us appreciating our own little efforts too comes a long way," Bainbridge said.
When becoming an Ironman, Elder Hall further explained not only the joy in finishing the race, but also the training and endurance of the journey.
Compared to the challenges in our journey here on Earth, Elder Hall said that the process of becoming shapes us to be "who the Lord knows you can become."
Elder Hall concluded his message by inviting students to find joy in the journey of life with Christ by their side.
Bainbridge said, "It's the process that helps grow you, and that helps you appreciate it."

I like Elder Hall’s invitation to “just keep swimming”. We definitely need to continue to move forward and always know that our Savior is there for us along the way.
