The “What Were You Wearing” gallery originally opened in 2013 and was inspired by the poem that gave the project its name. The sexual assault survivor exhibit featured clothes that survivors were wearing when the assaults took place.
On Friday the Family Crisis Center at 16 E. Main Street will be hosting something similar.
“It's more like an awareness event,” said Erica Battezzato, the public awareness coordinator for the center. “We just share the resources that we have, what sexual assault is and stuff like that.”
This free walk through gallery will go from 6-8 p.m., with the crisis center thrift store also open and offering a 20% discount. Light refreshments will be provided.
Battezzato said that the gallery will feature art and poems that correlate with the mission to raise awareness for sexual assault and domestic abuse survivors.
The Family Crisis Center’s mission is to promote safety, self-sufficiency, hope and healing to those affected by any form of abuse, according to the website. Through this event, Battezzato hopes to raise more community awareness, debunk how clothes do not equal consent and share the messages of those who have been affected.
