Saturday, June 10 is Free Fishing Day, which allows citizens of Idaho and visitors to fish without permits anywhere in Idaho.
This celebration is an opportunity for beginner fishers, young or old, to learn the basics. Idaho Fish and Game employees and volunteers will be at different locations across the state to help participants.
Idaho Fish and Game will also provide gear such as rods and bait. The supplies are free for use but will only be available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Giveaways and prizes will also be up for grabs.
“In the month leading up to Free Fishing Day, Fish and Game hatcheries stocked about 500,000 catchable rainbow trout throughout the state,” said Idaho Fish and Game Hatchery Manager Bryan Grant in a press release.
There are three different locations in the Southeast region. All of these locations will have this event running from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The locations are Edson Fichter Pond, Pocatello; Kelly Park Pond (upper pond), Soda Springs; and Grace Fish Hatchery, Grace. Grace Fish Hatchery will only host the event for youth 14 and under. Information on these locations is available in a Fish and Game press release.
Other Free Fishing Day locations near Rexburg are Trail Creek Pond in Island Park and Mill Creek & Stoddard Mill Pond in Victor. Idaho Fish and Game wants all participants to remember that all other fishing rules apply. All questions about these rules and other information about this event can be found on their website.
