The Garden View Cafe in the Thomas E. Ricks Building closed for the day when the card-reader program stopped working at about 9:30 a.m. on June 14.
Cammerron Baits, a junior studying theater performance and directing, was working at the register when it stopped working.
“It was working just fine with me typing in the credit cards manually,” Baits said. “Then I went to do someone’s order and the entire system shut down.”
Brynn Schippert, a sophomore studying communications who also works at the Cafe, arrived for her shift after the breakdown.
“This has never happened before,” Schippert said. “The system sometimes has had problems swiping cards before, but it’s never just completely shut down like this.”
Garden View Cafe staff left for the day at 10:30 a.m. Baits said that campus IT workers would come to fix the problem.
The Cafe Kimball also had technical problems with the card reader, but the errors were corrected by 10:15 a.m.
Tito’s Tacos also experienced technical problems on June 13, but the problems had been corrected by opening time on June 14.
The Snow Cafe was unaffected.
