Give blood, give life

American Red Cross will come to the BYU-Idaho Center to hold a blood drive on Feb. 24 through Feb. 26.

The blood drive will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. Students can schedule an appointment to donate with the American Red Cross here.

To ensure safety, donors must meet certain requirements. All donors must be feeling well and in good health. For whole blood donations, donors must be at least 16-years-old and weigh at least 110 lbs. Visit the American Red Cross Requirements by Donation Type page to find out more.

Approximately 36,000 units of red blood cells are needed every day in the U.S. and the demand for blood is not always met. Fewer than 10% of Americans donate blood each year according to the American Red Cross.

Donating blood with the American Red Cross is safe and takes only about 10 minutes once set up, but a donation can save up to three lives.

Rachelle McKamey, a freshman studying math education, said, “If you’re a blood donor, you’re a hero to someone, somewhere, who received your gift of life.”
