The Grand Ballroom in the Hyrum Manwaring Student Center will host the Idaho Supreme Court’s visit to the BYU-Idaho campus Thursday, Nov. 7.
The court will hear a total of three cases: McInnes v. Madison County at 8:50 a.m., Arellano v. Sunrise Homes at 10 a.m. and Bray v. IDJC at 11:10 a.m.
“The Supreme Court of Idaho is the State's court of last resort,” according to the State of Idaho Judicial Branch’s website. This suggests the complex nature of the cases, which could not be resolved at merely district level, and the value of students’ attendance of oral arguments.

The current members of the Idaho Supreme Court are Chief Justice G Richard Bevan, Justice Robyn M. Brody, Justice Gregory W. Moeller, Justice Colleen D. Zahn and Justice Cynthia K.C. Meyer.
“After the Chief Justice and Justices are seated, the Chief Justice announces the title of the case and calls by name the attorney who is to be heard first,” according to the court’s website. “The attorneys for the parties then present their arguments to the Court.”
At 12:45 p.m., following the oral arguments, the court will open the floor for questions from attendees.
“Visits like this offer our students, employees and community members an opportunity to observe the judicial process first-hand,” said Tyson Yost, Department of History, Geography and Political Science Chair in a BYUI Newsroom Preview. “It helps to reinforce the importance of the rule of law in our democratic institutions and the protections such a system offers each of us as citizens.”
The Idaho Supreme Court tours the state to hear oral arguments in front of various audiences. They last visited Rexburg in June 2023.
