The I-Mazing Race, which took place on campus May 21 from noon to 2 p.m., was an event patterned after the CBS show The Amazing Race and included teams of two with 10 challenges to complete.
“We tell people that it’s a glorified scavenger hunt with a twist,” said Lark Waters, a senior studying recreation management and a manager for the event. “The main point of this event is to explore what the school has to offer. We’re using a lot of the school’s resources—the rock wall, slack lining [ropes] and even wheelchairs—to show that they are available on campus.”
To start, each team was given a clue to where its first challenge was located and then got its next clues after completing these challenges. The challenges were set at stations all over campus, from under the stadium where participants had to eat pie to potato sack races at the orchards.
The team members could only use their feet to run to each challenge — no wheeled vehicles were allowed.
To participate, teams paid for tickets online at $3 a person. There were six different team colors and five teams per color. There was a grand prize for the winning team and team color.
“The prizes are tickets to other events on campus, and the bookstore donated some splies for the {other} prizes,” said Mariah White, a sophomore studying elementary education and another manager for the event.
Bryce Fairbourn, a junior studying construction management, and Alyssa Lemmon, a sophomore studying graphic design, were the first place winners from the blue team.
