The city of Iona will host its 31st annual Iona Days on July 17-18.

Iona Days will begin with a 10K race at 7 a.m., followed by a 5K race at 7:15 a.m., with registration available until the day of the races.

Following the races, there will be a community breakfast. Law enforcement and the local fire department will be serving breakfast to the community. The community breakfast has become a beloved tradition of Iona.

"It really is a great opportunity to bring the community together," Andrea Bunderson, the event planner of Iona Days, said.

Following the community breakfast, there will be a parade, history tours and festivities to celebrate Iona.

There will also be a bubble party, bounce houses, car show, local vendors and a variety show hosted throughout both days at Iona Day Fest.

On July 17, Iona City Council member James West will host a fireworks show once the sun sets.

"This will take you on a history tour of places that are still standing that are very important to the Iona history of early settlers," said Bunderson.

The Iona History Museum will spend the entire celebration taking interested members on tours throughout the museum.

"It's a celebration of pioneer heritage," said Bunderson.

Iona's pioneer heritage is incredibly important to the community due to early members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints settling in the area.

"[Wilford Woodruff] [blessed] the land of Iona, and he [talked] about this area being dotted with temples," Bunderson said.

Wilford Woodruff, the fourth prophet of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, traveled to the town of Iona and gave what is now called the "Wagon Box Prophecy."

Woodruff blessed the town of Iona, saying, "The spirit of the Lord rests mightily on me, and I feel to bless you in the name of Jesus Christ. I promise you that the climate will be moderate for your good. I can see these great sagebrush prairies as far as the eye can reach turned into fertile fields. I bless the land that it shall yield forth its strength. Flowers and trees and fine homes shall grace the valley from one end to another. Schools and colleges of higher learning shall be built to serve you, that you may learn the mysteries of God's great universe. I see churches and meeting houses dotting the landscape, where the God of Israel may be worshipped in truth and in spirit. Yes, and as I look into the future of this great valley, I can see temples - one can see beautiful temples erected in the name of the living God, where holy labors may be carried on in His name through generations to come! Take courage, brethren and sisters, for these blessings, though they may seem marvelous in your eyes, nevertheless will be fulfilled according to your faith."
