The Rexburg Municipal Golf Course is more than just your average course. Within these fairways and greens, there is an extra set of 18 holes. Its the home to a full Foot golf course.
“Foot Golf is just soccer and golf, so you take a ball and you tee off between the markers and you try and kick the ball the least amount of times that you can to put it in the hole that we have out there,” said Kara Martin, an employee of the Rexburg Municipal Golf Course. “We have 18 different holes that follow our nine holes of golf.”
In a city full of college students, Foot Golf is a unique alternative to your average afternoon activities.
“The city just wanted something that people could come and do that wasn’t golf related, well not really golf related, so they could use this for other things other than golfing,” Martin said.
Word is starting to spread as the name Foot golf itself brings people in just out of curiosity.
“Just the sign right out on the street is really how I heard about it,” said Thomas Rudd, a junior studying business management. “I saw a link online and it looked like it could be fun.”
Apart from being new and exciting, Foot golf is also easy on the wallet. It only costs 5 dollars to play and 2 dollars to rent a soccer ball.
“Its really easy to follow, they have a lot of fun and I know that a lot of people don’t play soccer that come out here, but they’ve had a lot of fun doing it,” Martin said. “As the word got spread around, more people are interested, ‘Oh hey, what’s foot golf?’ you know? They are just interested and then they realize what it is and then they come out and have a lot of fun and tell more people about it.”
“My shin is a little sore,” Rudd said. “My big toe kind of hurts, but hey, it was fun. I’d say it’s a fun date. You can definitely bring a gro of people out here, just be prepared for a long walk; maybe invest in the cart. Wear good shoes, walking shoes, for it and have fun.”
