LOL Rexburg brings ‘good, clean comedy’ to the community

On Saturday, Oct. 22, comedian Nick Hoff will be performing live at the Romance Theater. The show will begin at 7:00 p.m. and will mark the first-ever event held by independent start-up LOL Rexburg.

Owned and started by Ricks College graduate Aaron Perkins, LOL Rexburg is a company committed to serving the community. Jerry Merrill, the mayor of Rexburg, is set to be making an appearance at the event for its opening night.

“Rexburg is, as anyone who has lived here for any amount of time knows, a very special place,” said Perkins. “I knew there had to be something that I could do in the community that would feed the community, that would uplift the community, that would bring the community together.”

Part of his inspiration for the event came to him after seeing Jenna Kim Jones’ Dry Bar comedy show in Provo. He had just moved his family to Rexburg, leaving his job to start anew. After leaving the show, he wanted to fill the community with as much joy and laughter as he experienced that night.

“I felt so good,” Perkins said. “I felt so relaxed. I felt so invigorated, which was in contrast to how I felt in the months leading up with the move and everything. There was nothing that the comics said that I had to stop and ask, should I really laugh at that? Because it was all clean, appropriate and very relatable. It was then that I decided that I had to do this.”

This event will be the first of its kind in Rexburg, but it is only the beginning.

Perkins hopes that he will be able to keep bringing big names in comedy to Rexburg, and one day open his own venue for more events that will bring the community together.

So far, there are two more comics to look forward to; Brad Bonar on Nov. 12 and Al Goodwin on Dec. 10.

“There are 375 seats in the Romance Theater,” Perkins said. “I look forward to seeing all those seats full of people having as good a time as I did when I had my first experience with this type of comedy.”
