Madison County burn ban in effect through September

The Madison Fire Department issued a county-wide open fire ban effective Aug. 1 to Sept. 30.

The ban is "due to low fuel moisture and low relative humidity," according to the Fire Department's recent press release.

The low levels increase the risk of smaller fires turning into large ones.

Chief Corey Child hopes that the ban "will heighten the public's awareness of the extreme fire conditions we are in."

Any violations of the ban will be charged as a misdemeanor and result in a fine of up to $300.
