March 150 Miles to Yellowstone National Park

The Brigham Young University-Idaho Recreational Center is hosting a month-long fitness challenge called March to the Park.

Yellowstone National Park is 150 miles from Rexburg, and so the challenge is to theoretically walk the distance to Yellowstone during the month of March.

The first 50 participants to reach the goal of 150 miles get a free t-shirt as a prize. It's not too late to join, either.

"I like that it's slightly competitive, but it's not crazy," said Gabi Richman, a freshman majoring in psychology. "I want to be in the top 50 so I can get a t-shirt, and it's not too hard to get steps walking around campus."

March to the Park is a great way for students to get moving and be outside.

"My favorite part has been that I'm out of the house more and spending less time on my phone," said Jocelyn Jenks, a sophomore majoring in allied health. "When I prioritize physical activity, I feel so much better mentally, emotionally and physically."

It's also a great way for participants to pair up with people and spend more time with their friends and family.

"[My favorite part] has been doing it with my husband," said Jordyn Wyman, a senior majoring in communications. "Both of us are pretty competitive people and [it's fun] to see how many steps we can get every day."

Participants can track their progress in the online March to the Park tracker.
