Every Wednesday night, students attend the Meditation and Mindful Thinking workshop, where they come to partake in meditation exercises and discussions, allowing them to get away from the stress of life.
“It was my first time here and what I gained- I didn’t know there were different types of meditation. I thought all of them were “oooom” and breathing and just breathe a lot,” Hailey George, senior, said. “But I learned a lot about the different benefits of it because I thought it was just “find your center, you’ll feel a little bit better, but there’s a lot more to it than I realized, creating space in your life.”
The workshop focuses on relieving stress, so students spend time clearing their minds and meditating. Students also discuss what meditating means to them.
“It’s helped me to release stress, that’s a big reason why I started coming. It’s something that we learned a little about in my World’s Religion class, so I was curious about it,” Colby Cooley, sophomore, said. “This is the second time that I’ve come and just like practicing this on my own has helped me to be able to study more effectively. I enjoy it.”
If you are interested in relieving stress by meditation, the workshop meets every Wednesday from 5-6 pm in Taylor 120. I’m Jamie Lund, reporting for Scroll TV News.
