The week of Oct. 21, three new black electronic kiosks were installed outside the Joseph Fielding Smith Building, BYU-Idaho Center and near the roundabout by the BYUI letters.

“We anticipate that the kiosks should be running this week or next week, Oct. 27,” said Arnold Thiebaud, Marketing and Channel Data Manager at BYUI.

For several years, the University used old triangle poster kiosks to communicate special events, critical deadlines, wayfinding and other items, but Thiebaud said it was time to replace them.

“There are approximately 100 digital signs across campus and various buildings,” Thiebaud said, “We anticipate the outdoor kiosks will provide an extension of these efforts in addition to several other communication tools.”

There are also plans to replace the billboard at the track with a digital sign, but the details of construction and timelines are not known.

The BYUI marketing team has been working on the plan for electronic kiosks for a couple of years now, and with the help of the Digital Signage Network team, they were able to find the right ones for campus.

Johnathan Hecht, a student who works on the DSN team, contributed to the search for the right screens, cases and players, which are the mini computers inside the kiosk, where content can be uploaded.

"It's cool as a student that I've been part of the process," said Hecht, a business management and marketing major. He's excited to finally see the kiosks here on campus.
