Auditions for Upper Valley Idol were held Friday and Saturday, January 30
th and 31 st at the Romance Theater in Rexburg.Youth and adults alike brought their talent and participated in the auditions, bringing a wide range of talent to the stage. The auditions were a cappella only and a wide variety of songs were selected and performed by the participants.
“It’s actually the 11
th year of Upper Valley Idol and it’s my 10th year directing.”said Janet Escobar. Escobar went on to say, “I think probably one of my favorite parts is to later on kind of see success stories from people that maybe didn’t have a whole lot of self confidence or were a little bit nervous about coming to auditions.”
Many members of the community are involved in this competition.
“I’m really just here to remind everybody what a great show this is, this Upper Valley Idol, and that the Rexburg Arts is being very aggressive about putting lots of shows both here at the Romance Theater all this summer and at the Tabernacle,” said City Worker and judge, Kent Arnold.
With a total of three judges, participants received feedback immediately after their performance, making the auditions alone a worthwhile growing experience. One of the judges was actually a previous finalist and winner of Upper Valley Idol.
Jake Chamberlain said, “In 2008 I was a part of the competition and I did well enough to win and it was awesome. I won some money and then the whole next year I performed at all the city events and performed for the mayor; it was actually a lot of fun and then I went on to do American idol for a little while and after I was on that for a little while and I just came out with an album so this show really kind of jump started all that for me.”
Results were posted that night on the door of the Romance Theater of who will be competing this year in Upper Valley Idol’s 11
