BYU-Idaho is creating a new green space, which will be located on the southeast lot on campus, near the Rexburg temple. The planning of the new green space is not completely finalized.

Andy Johnson, the Director of Architecture & Construction Management Services, mentions the office will continue to improve the planning of green space, with rough plans to complete the landscape process in 2028.

"Three years ago, the lot was an open field full of dead grass," said Natalie Watson, a fine art major. "Now they are bringing in a bunch of dirt and packing it down, creating a foundation."

Johnson said, "BYUI has asked that we improve that area from farm land to become a green space [or] gathering area."

BYUI says that the purpose of a green space is to create contact with nature and help students with their mental well-being.

Johnson said, "This area is to provide space for students and the community to have an outdoor area near the temple, where they can study, ponder, and enjoy the outdoors in a reflective atmosphere near the temple."
