The Rexburg Police Department took a suspect into custody, believed to be the graffiti artist who has vandalized multiple sites in Rexburg using the tag "DOMO", for felony of malicious injury to property.
On their Facebook page, the Rexburg Police Department thanked the community for their information and tips on the suspect.
According to Idaho state law, an individual found guilty of trespass and malicious injury to another's property is subject to felony punishment of up to one year of imprisonment, a $1000 fine or both.
Unauthorized marking can make a community feel uninviting or neglected, or even unsafe. Properties with graffiti marks lose their property value by 15%, or even 25% if graffiti is profane or hateful, according to legal research.
David Reeser, a member of the Rexburg City Council for two years, said the police department has a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to vandalism.
The city council has not yet discussed any solutions for covering or removing the graffiti until further information is received from the police department.
