Locals gathered in Rexburg for the second “No Kings” protest this year, an effort opposing what demonstrators call authoritarian behavior from President Donald Trump.
The protest, hosted by the Madison County Democrats, which took place Saturday at Porter Park, was one of many across the country organized by citizens concerned about the direction of Trump-era policies.
Since taking office, Trump has deployed military resources to cities to cities he claims have high levels of street crimes and increased efforts to deport illegal immigrants.

According to protesters, these policies are going too far.
“No ICE, no KKK, no fascist, no kings,” one protester’s sign read.
Other protestors waved banners to passersby that said, “If you flip me off, you agree Trump is a fascist.”
A protestor who wished to remain unnamed, showed gratitude for the freedom to speak openly.
“I’m glad we have the right to protest. I hope we get to keep it,” the participant said. “Thanks for standing for and doing what you believe in. This is what America was supposed to be.”
While the protest remained peaceful, not everyone was in agreeance.

Rexburg local, Scott Lightbern watched from the sidewalk, unconvinced.
“So the party that is screaming about authoritarian rule is the same one that didn’t let its own members choose their candidate and also wanted the opposition party candidate removed from the ballot,” Lightbern said. “Yeah, that doesn’t sound like authoritarianism at all.”
Visitor from Idaho Falls, Mitchel Allread took a more humorous approach: “I generally do my ‘No King’ celebrating in the first week of July.”
The event concluded peacefully at 7 p.m.
