A Rigby man accused of murdering a Rexburg man in his home agreed to a plea deal with prosecutors Thursday.

Pierre Lake, 19, plead guilty in court Thursday to one count of first-degree murder for the death of Rexburg resident Ralph Brian and one count of attempted murder for stabbing Brian’s wife Karen.

On Sept. 20, 2021, Lake told his brother that he was going “to go ‘cap’ somebody.” At around 5 a.m. Lake entered the Brians’ mobile home off of North 12th West in Rexburg and stabbed Karen Brian multiple times with a knife. He then shot Ralph Brian in the head with the man’s own revolver.

Lake admitted to the attack after his arrest the next evening. Ralph Brian died from his injuries in November 2021.

In exchange for his guilty plea, Lake agreed to recommend for himself a fixed sentence of thirty years, an indeterminate sentence of life in prison and the payment of full restitution. The state agreed to drop the burglary and grand theft charges and to recommend the same sentence Lake agreed to.

District Judge Steven Boyce will sentence Lake on January 29, 2024, at 1:30 p.m.
