A proposed bond with the intent of building a new police precinct in Rexburg failed to pass on Nov. 4.

"The City of Rexburg is considering the development of a new facility to house the police department, to enhance service capabilities, and accommodate future growth," according to the webpage dedicated to the proposed bond. "Our team has been collaborating with a consulting agency to determine the space requirements, estimate costs and initiate the preliminary design process for this potential new station."

The bond was not supposed to surpass $16,750,000 and was going to be used to construct a new police precinct to prepare for the growing numbers of residents Rexburg is experiencing, according to the bond's page featured on the City of Rexburg website.

The proposed bond was voted on in the November 2025 ballot, needing a 66.67% majority to pass. However, the bond received only a 62.60% majority, narrowly failing. Out of 2,305 total votes, 1,443 voted for the new bond.

The plans for the new precinct are still in the concept stage. According to the newsletter regarding the bond, Rexburg has been saving for this new establishment for years. However, the savings are not enough to fund the entire project.

The November 2025 election had a small turnout, with eighteen percent of registered voters in Rexburg participating.

It is unknown what the next steps are for the new precinct based on the recent setback.
