According to the Salt Lake Tribune, the initial call to the police was made around 7:30 p.m.

"At this point, we know that there are at least eight victims. I can confirm that two of them have died; three of them are in critical condition, and three others [are] in unknown condition," Salt Lake City Police spokesman Glenn Mills said to KSL.
According to KSL, the police released an update last night at 11 p.m., noting that the perpetrator is still at large.
"The suspects are still outstanding, but our officers have obtained solid leads and are working to locate those involved," a Facebook post by the Salt Lake City Police said.
"We don’t believe this was a targeted attack against a religion," Salt Lake City Police chief Brian Redd said to Deseret News. Redd also said the police do not believe this was a random attack either.
According to Deseret News, around 200 people were inside the building for a funeral when they heard shots from the parking lot.

"This should never have happened. This should never have happened outside a place of worship. It should not have happened at a celebration of life that was occurring inside of the church," Salt Lake City mayor Erin Mendenhall said in a press conference quoted by Deseret News.
